Other passengers report that a crew member lost consciousness on board. Swiss confirms this and says that it was the flight attendant who later died. […]
The crew of flight LX 1885 apparently used the masks. In the aforementioned video, a crew member can be seen strapped into a safety seat with the mask in place. The packaging lies torn open on the floor. It is not clear whether the other crew members were also wearing the masks. Swiss does not provide any information about what happened on board. However, a mask was available for each crew member. […]
Why were some of the crew still unable to protect themselves adequately? One thing is certain: there are problems with the protective masks. In July 2023, they were used on a Swiss flight across the English Channel due to odours. However, some masks were damaged after being removed from their vacuum packaging. This was later recorded in a report by the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust). In October 2023, Swiss announced that it intended to replace the masks of the affected type within ‘a few months’. However, this process has not yet been completed. The old masks were in use on the flight from Bucharest to Zurich. Was Swiss too slow?
Meike Fuhlrott, the media spokeswoman for Swiss, denies this. ‘We had planned eight to sixteen months for the replacement of the masks.’She emphasises that the same masks are used by numerous airlines and are officially certified. In the meantime, Swiss has organised special training courses on how to use the masks.‘All crew members had already completed the additional training programme last April,’ says Fuhlrott. She did not answer the question as to whether the deceased employee had only joined Swiss afterwards.’NZZaS, 04.01.2025
